    'Orientate' Tool

    Hello,

The 'Orientate' tool would be identitcal to the View tool (Orient section), only would not involve any zooming.  Or perhaps this type of action could be accomplished with a modifier and the View tool(?)

I also have a couple of open thoughts regarding View tool enhancement-

1.) Should the icon on the button change to match the view?

2.) Often times, my eye knows what view I am looking for before my conciousness does, so it would be handy for the View button to be able to be pushed in rapid succession to cycle through the available views.  I find the current drop down list workflow to be slow.  I don't know if all of this could be overloaded into the current tool or if more GUI would need to be allocated.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

It sounds to me that you might like the Snap View tool that is in Spaceclaim.  It is to the right of the Pan tool.  The shortcut is hold down ctrl+shift+Middle Mouse Button.  It works by getting you into a heads up view of the indicated surface and allows you to snap the model 90 degrees in whatever direction you move the mouse.  Please try it out and see what you think.

    Hi Roman,

I had looked at this tool previously.  Unfortunately it also always has a zoom action associated with it.

When I have a larger piece, say meters or feet big and I'm down working at the centimeters or inches level, I would like to be able orient the view to right / left / front / tri / iso / etc. at the current zoom level.  Both the View and Snap View tools always zoom out to full extent before orienting which is a pain because you then have to zoom right back in.

    Thanks

    Steve

    Hi Roman,

I second Steve's request for a simple view orient tool that does nothing else than orient a given plane/face/axis to the screen plane without any hassle, just select, click - voilá.

If you click a plane or planer face and click "plan view"  or "V" on your keyboard it will give you a heads up view on that face without affecting your zoom.
